Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS, also known as Western Action Shooting, Single Action Shooting, or Cowboy 3-gun) is a competitive shooting sport that originated in Southern California, USA, in the early 1980's. It is a type of 3-gun match utilizing a combination of pistol(s), rifle, and/or shotgun in a variety of "old west themed" courses of fire for time and accuracy. Participants must dress in appropriate theme or era "costume" as well as use gear and accessories as mandated by the respective sanctioning group rules.
If you are interested in trying, here are some guidelines: We shoot single action revolvers, lever action rifles, and either a double barrel shotgun without ejectors, or an 1897 pump shotgun. Rifles are of handgun caliber, with handguns and rifles being .38 caliber or larger shooting lead bullets. Replica firearms are fine. Targets are steel so you know immediately if you hit or missed. There are usually seventeen shooters at our matches with people coming from Windsor, Chatham, Brantford, Mississauga, and London. We typically have 15-17 shooters at our matches.
For more information, here are the official Single Action Shooting Society Rules.
